Key Performance Areas
The Underground Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy equipment. The ideal Mechanic will be able to successfully troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine problems with the equipment. This will involve inspecting equipment for proper performance and determining faults and malfunctions, as well as, testing repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance. As the Equipment Mechanic, you will be expected to actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and comply with all SMRT safety policies and applicable government, customer, or industry regulations or requirements. A successful candidate has an excellent record of their work, is trustworthy and can communicate easily with others.
You possess a minimum of 2+ years of experience as an equipment mechanic, with at least 1+ years of experience in an underground mine environment, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience working on hydraulic and electrical systems is required, and diesel mechanic experience is a plus. You can demonstrate knowledgeof maintenance and mechanics of Haul Trucks, Loaders, Jumbos, and similar equipment. You will be expected to supply your own tools and steel toed boots, and to read and comprehend equipment service manuals, as well as have strong computer skills. Travel to remote sites is also required.

You provide thorough and high –quality work, while always recognizing the importance of time efficiency in all projects. You need to be self-directed and work with minimum supervision, and satisfactory safety, performance, and attendance records are required. You have a strong mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills.
Candidates should also possess:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Valid Driver’s license, with a clean driving record
- Ability to work in a varied shift schedule
